signed symmetric message

if i create a message using "gpg -sc", and then read the message, i'm 
told:
 	gpg: Good signature from "xxx <xxx at xxx.xxx>"
 	gpg: WARNING: message was not integrity protected

is it just me, or do those two messages seem to contradict each other?
