Hi all,

I have just finished translating Enigmail into Scottish Gaelic and I
am interested in translation the backend as well.

- From what I have read on the web, language selection would be forced
by the operating system's language or locale. Is this true?

If so, I won't be translating, because most users won't be able to
select the language - computers come with en-GB pre-installed and the
average user won't know how to change this :'(

If you run a Unix program for example like

  LANG=pt_BR thunderbird

it will use Brazilian portuguese.  I am not sure about Windows but at
least GnuPG supports LANG as well (Run "set LANG=XXXX" first).

Yes, geeks like you and me can do that. What about the average
computer (or even Windows) user who finds e-mail encryption scary
enough as it is? These people will need an easy GUI option, anything
else will be unusable for them.

A friend of mine has written a blog about the subject which you might
find interesting. It's mostly about browsers, but the basic problem is
still the same.
