I fired up Cygwin, checked out 4752, and kicked off a build.

Same result I got with MinGW under MSYS.

gettext is 0.16.1 with one patch required to get it to build, AIR.

It's probably easier to start with a release (like 1.4.9) and make sure
all the bugs are out of your build environment before trying to checkout
and build subversion revisions.

BTW, this really isn't a *-Users type type problem. You might do better
posting to *-Devel.
