Ok, I found out, it was really my fault. I should have read the
documentation more carefully :-( Sorry. It's solved now, and I'll commit it
and send a summary of my changes to the list soon.

In my defense, I must allege that having "ec=-1" being the error string for
GPGME_EOF is not very intuitive :-)
