problem importing keys (GPG 0.9)

I have my PGP5.0 key asci armored, and I'd like to import it to my GnuPG keyring.  This is my problem:

[phumpherys at blackdog phumpherys]$ gpg --import <phil.asc

gpg: Interrupt caught ... exiting

I have to CNTL-C to Interrupt out...

Thoughts?
