Why are there additional dashes?

These is the usual PGP dashed escaped text.  This is needed to escape
the message headers;  imagine what would happen if you sign an already
signed message.  Good mail clients do remove them, others should
process the mail through gpg.

You should not use the 1.1 version with a regular key !!!
