Why?  Avoiding trailing whitespace completely and using binary mode
signatures should work just as well.  This avoids any illusions about
what has actually been signed.  (In particular, if the distinction
between a "--" line and a "-- " line is considered important, then a
Content-Transfer-Encoding must be used where preservation of the
trailing space can be guaranteed.)
