I just (a few minutes ago actually) switched from PGP 6.5.8 to GnuPG
1.0.5. I grabbed the tarball from the site, did a ./configure, make,
su, make install and chmod'ed the executable to 4111 (setuid root,
execute), then moved my private and public keyrings. However, I did
notice something when I did a gpg --list-keys.

One key (just as an example), gets reported like this: (I cut the
email address to protect the innocent)

> pub 1024D/B917F1FE 1999-04-14 Daniel S\x72l\x76 <>
> sub 4096g/D1334328 1999-04-14

Of course the \x notation is ugly, and it's not a good thing that the
same character is shown as two different values, but I can live with
that. What's more annoying is that it actually "hides" some
characters. The real user name on this key is "Daniel Sörlöv" - but as
you can see, the r and v in his last name gets hidden.

I am not a member on the gnupg-devel list so if you reply to this
post, please CC me a copy. I simply don't have the time to commit to
yet another project right now, but I applaud the good work you have
done so far! Keep it up - hopefully I will be able to join some day
too.

Many thanks and ditto in advance,

Michael Kjörling
