Well, I use system and network statistics like the Perl EGD does.

I use
- -list of processes running
- -how long they have been running
- -how long the computer has been up
- -the time
- -list of running threads and their state
- -list of semaphores
- -list of loaded modules
- -free memory available
- -network mbufs
- -udp stats
- -ip stats
- -current socket stats
- -current routing table (and use stats)
- -general interface stats
- -arp table
