Cross Compiling

Can anyone help with cross compiling.  I watched the ./configure tool run
and my eyes watered.   I then looked in the file and noticed there was a
variable crosscompiler=no.

Is there a way to say yes and specify options.

Basically, I want to run it and compile it for the Zaurus.  Embeded Linux.
