Eventually libgcrypt will support hardware devices and then it will be
more than unlikely to get away without thread synchronization.
Libgcrypt's threads then need to get scheduled onto the available
hardware devices.  Well of course the hardware could provide this
scheduling but what if you want to mix different hardware (please
don't argument now, the OS kernel should do this).
