I just stumbled (again) across the file renaming bug on Windows XP with
gpg 1.4.1 rc2.

If my homedir is e.g. D:\patrick, then file renaming works fine.

*But* if my homedir is:
D:/Documents and Settings/patrick/Application Data/GnuPG
then I still get the file renaming bug when trying to import a key:

D:\gnupg\GnuPG\gpg.exe --charset utf8 --batch --no-tty --status-fd 2 -
- -import
gpg: key D18D9C18: public key "..." imported
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: imported: 1
gpg: public key 57BBB132 is 4104 seconds newer than the signature
gpg: renaming `D:/Documents and Settings/patrick/Application
Data/GnuPG\pubring.gpg'
to `D:/Documents and Settings/patrick/Application
Data/GnuPG\pubring.bak' failed: Permission denied
gpg: failed to rebuild keyring cache: file rename error
