That's encouraging and helpful, but doesn't really fulfill the
complexity requirements I am striving for, since it would require a
version that will make most users have to uninstall gnupg-2 (the way
Gentoo is packaging it now).  I'll talk to the current package
maintainer about slotting it to make this easier, but they seem to
have their minds made up about 1.x versus 2.x
(https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159623#c2).  Adding to the
problem is that the tools added to init (LVM2, cryptsetup, etc) are
not bundled or built with the package that generates the initrd;
rather, they are borrowed from the existing userspace.  I didn't
design it, but regardless of aesthetics it works and carries as little
baggage around with it as possible.

Your opposition to the unnecessary features is understandable, but do
you know of any issues particular to static linking on the 2.x branch?
