You might be interested in the jiggery-pokery that monkeysphere
subkey-to-ssh-agent does to make sure this happens.  it's a pretty
similar use case.

If you have monkeysphere installed, take a look at
/usr/share/monkeysphere/m/subkey_to_ssh_agent
