Hi Werner and other GnuPG folks--

I'm forwarding along https://bugs.debian.org/753047, which raises
concerns about cross-building libgpg-error (the FTCBFS in the Subject:
means "Fails to Cross-Build from Source"). This is important for debian
because libgpg-error is in the critical build-path for bootstrapping a
new architecture, thanks to this dependency chain: openldap → gnutls26 →
gcrypt → libgpg-error

In the future, we're hoping to move openldap to gnutls28 instead of
gnutls26, which will remove the gcrypt dependency and take libgpg-error
out of the critical path. But in the future, we may also want to
consider moving to gpg2 , which itself will depend on libgpg-error, so
being able to cross-build libgpg-error in a straightforward way would
still be useful.

I'm afraid i don't know enough about cross-building to have a concrete
suggestion for the bug reporter, or for gpg. It seems to me like the
remit of libgpg-error is narrow enough that we ought to be able to make
it cross-buildable.

Any pointers or suggestions for what we might do to make that work?

Regards,
