What's the current status of ECC support?

The latest beta I checked had support for the NIST curves but not for
curve25519. As far as I followed discussions (also around google's
endtoend) curve25519 seems to be the thing people generally want to use
in the future. Will 2.1 have curve25519 support? (and is this sign-only
or also for encryption?)
Is there a consensus how to implement it in a compatible way between
different pgp-implementations (that's probably mainly gpg and endtoend)?
