Windows does it too ;-)

A timestamp is helpful to analyze bug reports from production systems.
Often it is not clear how or when a binary has been build; the timestamp
can be helpful to find the used build environment.  It is also part of
the embedded copyright info which is very useful to research copyright
violations.
