Perhaps two small additions which just popped up in my mind:
a) regarding the "we must secure a majority who actually doesn't
*really* care about security" a funny analogy came into my mind:
Does anyone know any insurance companies that give their insurances
for free to customers who don't want them? ;)
b) For those who want a "simpler to use" (i.e. one that doesn't required
proper mutual authentication) crypto system for email, systems like
CAcert would IMHO do the job at a better level than TOFU.
