That was in a virtualenv, not globally. Not that it matters...

Generally "pip install" solves a different use-case from the
distro package manager. The distro will certainly take care of
making things work at their end; pip install is for developers or
folks who need something that hasn't yet been packaged for their
distro.

But even if my distro provided a new enough python-gpg package,
I'd still want pip install to work for folks on other platforms,
such as OS X or even Windows.
