Message-ID: <20130901014825.GA28595@datlandrewk.home> I'd like to help with updating GnuPG's documentation. Is this list still active, or should I be asking on the gnupg-devel list? I noticed the GNU Privacy Handbook has a copyright date of 1999. Does it need updating for current versions of GPG? If yes, where is the master Texinfo source? Thanks! --amk From brad at bradcan.homelinux.com Sat Sep 7 11:09:39 2013 From: brad at bradcan.homelinux.com (Charles Bradshaw) Date: Sat, 07 Sep 2013 10:09:39 +0100 Subject: The GNU Privacy Handbook pdf version? Message-ID: <1378544979.1035.18.camel@p2800.bradcan.homelinux.com> Hi I have been looking at the HTML and PDF versions of 'The GNU Privacy Handbook'. I'm viewing http://www.gnupg.org/gph/en/manual/book1.html and http://www.gnupg.org/gph/en/manual.pdf I note that all the command parameters in the pdf version are marked up with a single minus '-' prefix! eg. gpg "-gen-key", which should, of course, be "--gen-key" (ie minus minus) I think I am subscribed to gnupg-doc at gnupg.org to find out how to update the document, but the list appears to be dead? I wonder if this is a bug in whatever version of Texinfo was used to produce the PDF. LaTeX normally turns '--' into a single en-dash. I also wrote Mike Ashley asking for a pointer to the Texinfo source; once we get a copy, we can try a current version of Texinfo and see if the problem is fixed. --amk From wk at gnupg.org Sat Sep 7 20:38:46 2013 From: wk at gnupg.org (Werner Koch) Date: Sat, 07 Sep 2013 20:38:46 +0200 Subject: How to help with GnuPG documentation? I suggest to move to gnupg-devel. > I noticed the GNU Privacy Handbook has a copyright date of 1999. Does > it need updating for current versions of GPG? If yes, where is the > master Texinfo source? There is none. It was written in the Docbook SGML DTD. I liked that back then. Shalom-Salam, Werner -- Die Gedanken sind frei. Ausnahmen regelt ein Bundesgesetz. That is just one of the problems with SGML rendering tools. Actually such examples should show up in a monspaces font so that you indeed notice the two hyphens. I talked with Mike and he would be fine to swicth to org-mode. Salam-Shalom, Werner -- Die Gedanken sind frei. Ausnahmen regelt ein Bundesgesetz.
