On FreeBSD, you need to pass in IRQ's to rndcontrol(8) to get it to gather entropy from other sources than the keyboard. Boot-time settings to rndcontrol(8) can be set in /etc/rc.conf; I have: rand_irqs="1 10 12 14 15" # Stir the entropy pool (like "5 11") This depends on your hardware, of course. I've got IDE devices, a PS/2 mouse, network and soundcard. I forget which IRQ is for which device; I used xosview to find out which IRQ's are doing something.
