Can't decrypt .gpg file

I am not sure that I am comfortable with that, because the data is
sensitive and I don't know what data could be in the first 500 bytes.
It could be anything from the pass phrase to a partial directory, to
actual data (I'd hate for a dozen credit card numbers to appear in
the first 500 bytes in some way).
I cannot get the problem to occur consistantly. It seems to fail
at random. Right now I am trying to get it to fail on a small file,
so that I can then post the file and the passphrase for that file.
I'll keep trying to get something going.
