Ah yes.  Either Him should update GnuPG (which is a very good idea
anyway) or you use 

--disable-cipher twofish

Use of Twofish will force the use of MDC.  The story behind Twofish
is a little bit too complicated to tell now.

Please ask Him to update his GnuPG.
