Try creating the directory /home/tompoe/.gnupg before generating a key.
Please note the dot before 'gnupg'.

BTW, Werner, there are very often people who don't find the info to the
mailing lists because they just don't look under Documentation (which I
can perfectly understand because it's IMHO not very intuitive). I think
you should make the Mailing Lists page an item in the main menu to
avoid this problem in the future.
