Okay, so the hard copy dictionary I happen to have on hand is a little old. Your assertion that the word has been co-opted or it's meaning changed is not supported by the facts. Common usage like "it's a free country", "free speech", "Is this seat free?", "free beer", "free fall", and other similar uses seem to support my original argument; that the word has multiple meanings in English. I doubt if the first President Bush was talking about the price in dollars when he referred to the "Free World". On the other hand, I'm sure that the local grocery store means the monetary price when it offers "buy one, get one free" deals. If you have any evidence that supports a single-definition argument, please present it. Suggesting that I "grow up" does not constitute evidence of a change in the meaning of "free". So please present such evidence. Alternatively, you could accept that you're wrong and take your own advice: get over it. Tony - -- Anthony E.
