GPA 0.6.1 was released last week. I think you should try it :-)

By default, in Debian, the dinamic loader does not look for libs in
/usr/local/lib, so you have to tell it to do so manually. As far as I
know, there are several ways to do it:

        - Add /usr/local/lib to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment
        variable.

        - Add /usr/local/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf and run ldconfig.
