--clearsign with file containing --

If i clearsign a file containing the following:
-1
--2
---3
----4

the resulting file contains this:

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

- -1
- --2
- ---3
- ----4
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-----
Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (MingW32)

iD8DBQE+d0PUhACV9IQyHe0RAjvsAJ9aaw6GX0KDBlYB03OGgQYZo16AtACfVCU/
rjX+z2y31OhenXqJNotjeHY=
=pbc6
-----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

As you can see, gpg altered the input and prepended a "-" character.

Is there any way i can prevent gpg of altering the input data?
Why is it doing it anyway? I dont want to use --sign in this particular
case, only --clearsign suits my need.

Th.
