What processor do you have?  Offhand, I don't see any changes in the
MPI code that would do this.  There were barely any changes at all in
the MPI code between 1.2.4 and 1.2.6, and the few were for OpenBSD and
HPUX.

What does 'head -2 mpi/asm-syntax.h' return?
