gpg: conversion from `utf-8' to `CP0' not available

I downloaded 1.2.4 and as expected it is not working with the Bat!

When I tried:

gpg --charset=CP850 -k akey

or

gpg --no-options --charset=CP850 -k akey

I get the message gpg: error reading key: public key not found
???

I read about the possibility of trustsigning and am anxious to try
this :-(
