i just installed gpg (GnuPG) 1.3.5, and the first thing i did was run:
	gpg --version -v
which tells me:
	gpg (GnuPG) 1.3.5
	NOTE: THIS IS A DEVELOPMENT VERSION!
	It is only intended for test purposes and should NOT be
	used in a production environment or with production keys!

yikes!!! that sounds serious!

should i take this more seriously than the standard "ABSOLUTELY NO
WARRANTY" notice that comes with all GPL software? should i really not use
this version in a production environment with production keys?
