No need to start it under X.  However, pinentry does expect the DISPLAY
variable to be set so you will need to type export DISPLAY=0 first.
However, it still doesn't work properly.

I'm currently trying to ascertain whether there is a value of DISPLAY
that will work with qt3-mac and enable pinentry to grab the keyboard.
It may be necessary to install qt3 instead and use X11.
