Scdaemon tell's you: "Card not present".  Sorry, for the plain error
codes; using gpg2 should give you a readable error message.

Scdaemon is used by gpg if available becuase scdaemon has exclusive
access to the reader and thus gpg's internal code can't work directly
with the card. 

Sometimes it happens that scdaemon does not correctly detect a card
change.  the easiest fix is to  pkill scdaemon two times so that it gets
restarted by gpg-agent.
