Encryption failing due to missing(?) or unsigned(?) keys

Just for Grins; try add this line to Your gpg.conf:

trust-model always

The only other 'thing' that comes to mind is perhaps some Keys are not
properly cross certified.  You could also try adding this line to
gpg.conf as well:

no-require-cross-certification
