What is the benefit of signing an encrypted email

Which is simultaneously a solution for the spam problem (and an improvement 
against attacks by malicious content) in all thoses cases in which this kind 
of privacy is not required. For the (probably few) exceptions the other way 
(E/S/E) could be used.
