Bah. My mistake. I read public key, but acted for fingerprint.
You can choose to use an ID, the fingerprint, or a key ID. For reference
though, use the fine GnuPG manual entry here:

By Key ID:
$gpg --export --armor 0xFE679A908E997AB2
By ID:
$gpg --export --armor samir at samirnassar.com
By fingerprint:
$gpg --export --armor EE76B39E07788F95F796B044FE679A908E997AB2
