The code looks indeed weird, and seems to be the reason why the
set_pkcs7_cred self test fails.  Any ideas, Nikos?

It seems that way old GnuTLS versions have had the same problem with
non-initialized tmp (at least v1.0.18).  It doesn't seem like very
widely used code...
