tee does the trick.
make check 2>&1 | tee /tmp/foo

mini-loss-time seems to be the culprit, reverting the single line
change from 3.0.17 to 3.0.18
(4965c2fbfd3405e2dfe7f7d747d03185d155c2a1) seems to fix the issue.
