`_asn1_expand_identifier()` isn't documented at all. It's not clear to me at which point it has to be 'fixed'. IMO, a recursive algorithm like a tree needs some kind of 'stack' (via recursion or via a stack emulation) for a general proper operation. How can we make the code better maintainable ?
