The patch fixes the testcase I provided in the original report. Some cert has expired so one now needs datefudge:

used to fail but should not:
datefudge 2022-03-01  certtool --infile=/tmp/ci.pem --verify --load-ca-certificate=/etc/ssl/certs/ISRG_Root_X1.pem
duplicate cert removed, succeded
datefudge 2022-03-01  certtool --infile=/tmp/ci-noduplicate.pem --verify --load-ca-certificate=/etc/ssl/certs/ISRG_Root_X1.pem
