The MSVC compiler is totally unrelated here. `./configure && make` can
handle the MSVC compiler just fine, as long as you have a mingw shell
and Make. Lots of people build unix autotools projects on Windows with MSVC.

Not every project is guaranteed to work without testing, since both
source code and required compiler options may need defining for correct
Windows handling, but that is not because MSVC itself "cannot be used".

There could be a number of reasons, but "it runs faster" is merely a
nice to have, and you've already stated that *your* goal is indeed about
the msvc compiler so I don't see why it matters what the main reason of
*other people* is.
