<p dir="auto">The two gnulib-tool invocations in <code>bootstrap.conf</code> use options that are not implemented in <code>gnulib-tool.py</code>. That python tool needs some work, likely nothing complicated. Measured here, each replacement of <code>gnulib-tool</code> by the python version gives me ~6s boost, so reducing <code>./bootstrap</code> here from 1m03 to 45s then. Would be nice to have that for other projects as well.</p>
<p dir="auto">The other CPU intensive command are mostly perl scripts (autoreconf and autopoint). When above things are done, we can analyze the command/fork/system timings with <a href="https://gitlab.com/rockdaboot/librusage">librusage</a>.</p>
