<a href="https://gitlab.com/dkg">Daniel Kahn Gillmor</a> created an issue: <a href="https://gitlab.com/gnutls/gnutls/-/issues/1242">#1242</a>

<div></div>
<p dir="auto">I ran into this trying to revise <a href="https://gitlab.com/gnutls/gnutls/-/merge_requests/1435" data-original="!1435" data-link="false" data-link-reference="false" data-project="179611" data-merge-request="100023291" data-project-path="gnutls/gnutls" data-iid="1435" data-mr-title="x509: Omit empty sequences of policyQualifiers." data-reference-type="merge_request" data-container="body" data-placement="top" title="" class="gfm gfm-merge_request">!1435</a> -- git frowned on my adding a new template to <code>tests/cert-tests/templates/</code> because the common template name used in this directory (<code>*.tmpl</code>) matches an entry in the top-level <code>.gitignore</code>.</p>
<p dir="auto">Looks like the <code>*.tmp*</code> was only added a couple years ago, in <a href="https://gitlab.com/gnutls/gnutls/-/commit/dc85966364994006f9337e4749d1487e4b8e16a1" data-original="dc85966364994006f9337e4749d1487e4b8e16a1" data-link="false" data-link-reference="false" data-project="179611" data-commit="dc85966364994006f9337e4749d1487e4b8e16a1" data-reference-type="commit" data-container="body" data-placement="top" title=".gitignore: add test files" class="gfm gfm-commit has-tooltip">dc859663</a> by <a href="https://gitlab.com/alonbl" data-user="174650" data-reference-type="user" data-container="body" data-placement="top" class="gfm gfm-project_member js-user-link" title="Alon Bar-Lev">@alonbl</a>. (before that it used to just be <code>*.tmp</code>)</p>
<p dir="auto">I'd recommend either reverting <code>.gitignore</code> to just contain <code>*.tmp</code> or renaming all the template files. The former seems easier, but i also don't understand what <a href="https://gitlab.com/alonbl" data-user="174650" data-reference-type="user" data-container="body" data-placement="top" class="gfm gfm-project_member js-user-link" title="Alon Bar-Lev">@alonbl</a> was aiming to catch with that revision.</p>
