That's a good point You would need to reboot in order for that
environment variable to be in effect. I was under the impression
however that defining environment variables could be done under all
(current) Windows versions the same way.

I haven't looked at any of the installer programs, but you should
be able to get the installer to call a batch file that said something
like:
echo SET GNUPGHOME=C:\GNUPG >> AUTOEXEC.BAT
(or something like that)
But as I said, I haven't used any of the installers so that might
not be possible.

That might be. But for myself, I hate the registry and registry
corruption is often a big problem.
Often, clients of mine will have problems with registry corruption
(that I have to fix), and I wonder if it isn't because so many
programs are writing to it.
Timo was writing to the registry with later versions of WinPT and I
encouraged him to simply put everything in a config file instead of
using environment variables or the registry. That might be
complicating things too much for the typical windows user however.
