I mixed the rfc numbers up.  What I mean was RFC 1847.  This is the
common framework for MIME security extensions.  RFC3156 (which has
superseeded rfc2015) is the PGP instance whereas the RFC2630 ff
describes the S/MIME instance.

S/MIME   - RFC 2632 f
OpenPGP  - RFC 2440 but a soon to be replaced by
           draft-ietf-openpgp-rfc2440bis-03.txt
PGP/MIME - RFC 3156
PEM      - Obsolete (although that RFC1421 ff are still in proposed standard)
MOSS     - RFC 1848
X.509    - RFC 2510 f
