Okay, I just made a try with today's CVS version of GPGME. The steps were:
- download gpgme from CVS into a fresh directory.
- remove lines 162-164 from configure.ac. (Else, they resulted in an error
message "checking whether va_lists must be copied by value... configure:
error: cannot run test program while cross compiling".)
- run "autogen.sh" without any parameters.
- run "autogen.sh --build-w32 --with-gpgsm=tests/gpgsm".
- run "make".
I got the same error messages about Assuan again.

Attached.
