Time to look for an autoconf test to figure out whether the linker
supports the version scripts - this would also allow us to drop the
hardcoded use of version scripts.

OTOH, not including this tests, force people to update there system
(with such old binutils, I am pretty sure a couple of security fixes
are neither installed).
