It seems to me that this variable assignement is not correct, because
this way mail uses its own From:, To:, Subject:, etc. and not those
provided in the template file.  As an example, see PR #5 at
http://bugs.gnupg.org/: template's fields belongs to Unformatted area.

I suggest to use

MAILPROG="/usr/sbin/sendmail -oi -t"

or even nothing.  Note I didn't give it a try, though.
