I asked Edward Alfert , first US mirror admin, and he agreed with no fuss. I may be wrong because in Italian there is no difference between a country and a state. I mean, we don't have a word for "country" and we translate it with the same word as "state". And nowadays I think one could say "United States of Europe" (political implications apart) as much as United States of America, couldn't they? -- Lorenzo Cappelletti - Webmaster at http://www.gnupg.org/ Fingerprint: 8CDD 3408 53B2 6122 99DA EE37 1523 68FC D906 4C08 From lorenzo.cappelletti at email.it Sun May 16 14:27:15 2004 From: lorenzo.cappelletti at email.it (Lorenzo Cappelletti) Date: Sun May 16 14:53:33 2004 Subject: US Florida In-Reply-To: <40A1DCBE.7030007@iac.es> References: <409BC132.8070901@ll.iac.es> <20040510202555.GE826@quark.standalone.it> <40A1DCBE.7030007@iac.es> Message-ID: <20040516122715.GG2106@quark.standalone.it> "\"Noel D. Using the terms "state", "country", and/or "nation" may lead to misunderstanding. Then, I'll try to explain the purpose of the mirror list. Porpuse of the mirror list is to unload the main GnuPG server and the Internet of high download traffic. In order for the solution to be effective, the user must be able to find the mirror colest to them in a snap. That's why the main list section is by continents (Americas, Europe, Africa, etc.). Following this reasoning, next level would be a country in Europe and a state in the US. If we had 1 mirror per US state, a user would get lost within the long list of 52 mirrors. Keeping in mind this main goal (user should get straight to the right mirror), this is the list layout I propose. If you have a better proposal, please go ahead and share it with us. -- Lorenzo Cappelletti - Webmaster at http://www.gnupg.org/ Fingerprint: 8CDD 3408 53B2 6122 99DA EE37 1523 68FC D906 4C08 From lorenzo.cappelletti at email.it Sun May 16 14:28:07 2004 From: lorenzo.cappelletti at email.it (Lorenzo Cappelletti) Date: Sun May 16 14:53:41 2004 Subject: US Florida In-Reply-To: <200405121022.i4CAMIJ01109@blue.rootmode.com> References: <20040510202555.GE826@quark.standalone.it> <200405121022.i4CAMIJ01109@blue.rootmode.com> Message-ID: <20040516122807.GH2106@quark.standalone.it> Edward Alfert , Wed 12 May 2004 06:22 -0400: > I was thinking GNUPG wanted to group mirrors by state since the US is large.
