From wk at gnupg.org Mon Nov 13 18:33:08 2017 From: wk at gnupg.org (Werner Koch) Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2017 18:33:08 +0100 Subject: Welcome to the new members Message-ID: <878tfa84ob.fsf@wheatstone.g10code.de> Hello! Two months ago I asked to apply for membership. We received 6 applications for membership and one application for supporting membership. For the latter we do not yet have rules and thus this has been put back. Andre and me accepted the membership applications of Holger Smolinski Bernhard Reiter Damien Goutte-Gattat Phil Pennock Maurice Kemmann Martin Gollowitzer (the full list of members is kept in our verein's git repo and at https://gnupg.org/verein/members.html). Holger once helped with porting GnuPG to the s390. Bernhard is CEO of Intevation GmbH and involved in GnuPG development since the days we ported gpg to Windows in 2000. Damien is currently hacking on Pinentry and should be known to those of you who watch gnupg-devel. Phil should also be known, he runs an SKS keyserver and helps with keyserver testing and fixing, both on the server and gpg part. Maurice used to be CEO of OpenIT (I was co-counder and worked for a year there too), supported us with technical resources, and promotes end to end encryption in businesses and private. Martin wrote the FSFE's guide for the smartcard and promotes GnuPG for many years. You are all subscribed to this list with the address you initially sent us. If you want to change that address, let board@ how. If the traffic ever gets too high, please complain and we will setup an verein-announce list so that we can be sure that you receive important messages. As a member of the Verein, you can get a gnupg.org mail alias, just let me or the board know. Shalom-Salam, Werner -- Die Gedanken sind frei. As you know our treasurer resigned from his position and also quit his membership a few weeks later. The treasurer is a special position due to this extra constitutional work: The Treasurer has to aim for responsible and economical budgets. With the end of a business year s/he shall immediately draw up an account and provide a statement of assets and liabilities. and that it would be convenient if the treasurer is able to read and write German. Maybe due to these requirements we were not able to find a candidate for that open board position. Thus Andre and me came up with this new idea: At the next general assembly, Andre resigns from his position as vice-chairperson and will candidate as treasurer. This leave an open board position for the vice-chairperson. Minimum work required will be attending a phone conference every few weeks and reading the mails to board. We hope that it will be easier to find at least one member who will run for the position of the vice-chairperson. What do you think? Shalom-Salam, Werner -- Die Gedanken sind frei. Our constitution demands demands a general meeting once a year. We were founded in February, so next February should make a good date for the next general meeting. Note that we can't delay a meeting much more because we really need to re-elect the open board position. FOSDEM will be on February 3 and 4 (Saturday and Sunday in Brussels) and increase the likeliness that many members of the Verein are anyway there. However, which the usual FOSDEM chaos it will be hard to get a room and renting a room in hackerspace or hole in the city is also troublesome due to the time required to travel from the FOSDEM venue to the city. So what do you think of having an extended general meeting, say 2 days, before or after the FOSDEM. We could have the legally required general meeting on Friday or Monday and for those who have spare time extra discussion on Thursday or Tuesday. From an organizational POV it would be easiest to have it in our office at Duesseldorf. We could then arrange for travel to or from FOSDEM (e.g. on Saturday morning or Friday evening a bit more than 2 hours by car). But that is just a suggestion. That sounds good for me as it gives me a reason to go both to DUS and to FOSDEM :) All the best, Martin -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Even if you are not planning to attend please fill out the poll so that we get a better overview. As we have to invite in advance and so on we would like to have a date sooner rather then later.
