Still an oddity with preferences:

I tried mailing a PGP6 user with a bcc to myself (so I could decrypt
it myself) and got:

gpg: ELG-E/BLOWFISH encrypted for: (someone)
gpg: ELG-E/BLOWFISH encrypted for: 272B34B6 brian moore <bem at cmc.net>
gpg: DSA signature from: 88322B51 brian moore <bem at cmc.net>

But if I look at their key:
Command> pref
pub 1024D/xxxxxxxxx created: 1998-12-10 expires: never trust: -/q
(1) someone
     S3 S2 S1

And mine:

Command> pref
pub 1024D/88322B51 created: 1998-10-17 expires: never trust: -/u
(1) brian moore <bem at cmc.net>
     S4 S3 H3 H2 H6 H1 Z2 Z1
(2) brian moore <bem at thorin.cmc.net>
     S4 S3 H3 H2 H6 H1 Z2 Z1
(3) brian moore <bem at news.cmc.net>
     S4 S3 H3 H2 H6 H1 Z2 Z1

It should have done S3, which would be CAST5.
